Ways to Fight Against Cybercrime

The development of information and computer technology in recent years is accompanied by a number of threats that interfere on virtually all spheres of public life. One in all such threats is the use of computer technologies for committing socially dangerous acts that is cybercrime and we need to fight against this curse. Here some ways to protect yourself from cybercrime.

Become vigilant when browsing the website :
When you use the internet your browser (opera, Chrome, Safari, Firebox) keeps a record of which sites you have visited in its history. It is awfully easy to clone a real website. So you have to be extremely careful when browsing any website. Always make sure that you are using the most current version of your browser offered.
Before entering private information like passwords or credit card details or cell number on a website, you need to ensure that the link is secure in two ways:

1.There must be a padlock symbol in the browser window frame, that appears when you attempt to log in or register that site. confirm that the padlock is not on the page itself. This will probably indicate a dishonest site directly. So be careful!

2.The web address should begin with ‘https://’. Where ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’.
It indicates that the website owners have a digital certificate that has been issued by a trusted third party. That means the communication between you and the site holder is safe. Sometimes, a certificate has no guarantee that the site owner is the organisation or person you think you are communicating with. you can carefully browse the web page address to confirm authenticity.

Flag and report suspicious emails:
most times Scammers use email or text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information. they will attempt to steal your passwords, account numbers, or Social Security numbers. If they get that information, they may gain access to your email, bank, or other accounts. Scammers easily launch thousands of phishing attacks like these daily.

Scammers update their systems regularly, but some signs will help you to recognize a phishing email or text message easily.

Phishing emails and text messages may seem like they’re from an organization you recognize or trust. they’ll seem like they’re from a bank, a MasterCard company, a social networking site, an internet payment website or app, or an internet store. once you found a suspicious email then report it soon.

How to protect yourself from suspicious emails:

  • safe your data by backing it up regularly.
  • Protect your movable by setting software to update automatically.
  • Protect your data account by using multi-factor authentication.
  • Protect your PC by using the security system.

Ensure websites are safe before entering there:
some websites contain harmful virus. Whenever you visit an internet site please ensure that the web site is free from any harmful virus. If a URL has “https” (stands for HTTP Secure) at the start, then this website is safe to use. The communication over the pc network is encrypted meaning that page authenticity on websites is safeguarded, accounts are secure and user communications, identity and web browsing are confidential.

Activate your emails Anti-Spam blocking feature:
activating Spam filtering will move emails designated as spam to the Spam folder and delete them automatically after seven days.
Spam filtering is enabled by default for all DreamHost hosted email addresses to produce you with the simplest email experience possible. So activate your email’s anti-spam blocking feature to safe yourself from the web crime world.

Never click any unfamiliar link or ads:
Sometimes web criminals are tried to hack your social account or your private information by sending unfair links. So for your privacy concern, you will never click any suspicious link or ads.

Use a VPN whenever possible:
You can use a Virtual Private Network or VPN to stay you safe from cyber attack. These days we use the internet frequently. So you must take measures for your information security. A virtual private network takes care of this as well. A VPN helps in protecting your privacy. It also stays you secure even when you are on a public network. VPNs can be an invaluable tool for taking a proactive approach to protecting yourself against cybercrime completely. When creating online bank transactions or sending private e-mails, sensitive information can easily be obtained by individuals with a little cyber know-how. VPNs help to prevent this situation by encrypting any information you send over the web. Even if a hacker can attain some of the pieces sent through the network, the heavily encrypted information will be completely useless to them. This extra covering of protection goes a long way toward protecting your sensitive data.

Never tell anyone about your password:
Always keep your passwords ( social service, bank account, email account password etc) are private. Never tell it anyone. If anyone knows your password he/she can easily steal your private information. Don’t use the same password in your several accounts. If anyhow this password is leaked, all of your accounts password is leaked. Which may harm your privacy. So be careful!

Use a strong password:
Always use a strong password. If you use a strong password, it is difficult for hackers to identify your password. People generally use their phone number, their name etc which is very much easy to detect. When you make a password you use special symbols like %,&, # and num lk to strong your password and always keep your password more than 8 digits.

Don’t share your private info anywhere without verifying the link:
If the link you want to enter isn’t verified then please don’t give any of your personal information there. This site isn’t safe anyhow. You may lose your privacy.

Monitor your children’s online activities:

You must keep your attention to your child online movements because local network breaches don’t come from your computer, but from your children’s tablets, phones or notebooks easily. So educate your children to prevent them from falling victim to cybercriminals by using the same tips we’ve shared with you here.

As internet plays a vital role in our daily life. So it is quite impossible for us to stop using it. All of these techniques and steps are part of a bigger goal and plan against cyber attack frequenly: build your security consciousness to ensure your cyber presence is as safe as you can make it.
